- The
best example of the problems of treatment
that was headline news since the last 10 years is certainly about the ones
concerning the emerald . Lawsuits making a lot of noise in the U.S.A. have
seriously damaged the confidence in the market, from the fact that the oils and
fillers used are instable and that the "hidden" fractures reappear in
20% of the cases:
3 questions were published in the world press :
1) What type of "filler" has been used.
2) How long does the treatment efficiently last.
3) What is the amount (percentage) present in the stone.
During the debate that was raging, the manufactures of "filler" pretended that it
was possible to remove it and to replace it, what is a lie.
Several laboratories offer a service of identification giving 4
classifications (or more) about the degree of presence of a
"filler": None / Weak / Moderate / Important.
Recognition : often, "flash", bubbles, fractures not totally filled
that are visible under the microscope. (G & G Winter 2000).
